Dato' Hj. Md. Hashim Yahaya

Shariah Scholar/Expert

Dato' Hj. Md. Hashim Yahaya was a member of Shariah Supervisory Council of Takaful Malaysia appointed on 1 September 1989. He holds a Diploma in Education from the University of Ain Shams, Egypt, a Bachelor of Arts in Shariah in 1967 and subsequently obtained a Master of Arts in Shariah from University of Al-Azhar, Egypt in 1969.

He started his career in 1970 as a Lecturer with the Higher Islamic Studies Centre in Kota Bharu, Kelantan prior to his transfer to the University of Malaya (UM) in 1981 as a Dean for the Shariah Faculty until 1985. He was subsequently appointed as the Assistant Head of Islamic Academy, UM from 1984 until 1985 and later appointed as the Head of Islamic Academy, UM. In 1996, he served at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) as Professor in the Kulliyah of Laws. He was the Mufti of Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya Islamic Religious Department from January 1997 until his retirement in January 2003.

He is now a Very Distinguished Academic Fellow, Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Laws, IIUM.

He is also a committee member of various organisations including the Shariah Supervisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities Commission, a member of Islamic Instrument Research Body of Securities Commission, was a member of the Shariah Supervisory Council of BIMB and Shariah Advisor to Interest Free Banking System to Malayan Banking Berhad, United Merchant Finance Berhad, Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad, Amana Takaful Sri Lanka and currently International Development Bank (IDB), Jeddah.
